Nanoparticles turn water to steam

Scientists have used gold nanoparticles to absorb a range of wavelengths from the sun’s rays to produce heat, which is sufficient to vaporize water. This process could be used to desalinate salty water making it fit to drink.

Transplanted pig heart kept alive in baboon

Scientists have managed to keep a pig heart beating in a baboon for more than two years. This may start to pave the way for pig hearts to replace human donors.

 

Comet 67P

Comet 67P is still being tracked by the Rosetta spacecraft. In September it is hoped to put the spacecraft down on the comet. It will probably crash land and stop transmitting but scientists hope to get some good photos before this happens.
